The family is a universal entity and a basic cell of society, as expressed in the Declaration of Human Rights, and marriage is a value in all countries, cultures and situations.
Right from the time it was set up, the aim of IFFD has been to promote and protect values of the family and marriage on a national and international level. For this, above all on an international level, the IFFD has been developing activities within the scope of relations with bodies and institutions of the United Nations and the European Union in all issues related to family policies.
IFFD is a member and has been conferred Special Consultative Status on the Economic and Social Committee (ECOSOC) of the United Nations, it chairs the NGOs Committee of the United Nations for the Family in Vienna and has standing representation in the main headquarters of the UNO: New York, Geneva and Vienna.
The Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations in the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations has decided on the 2nd February 2011 to unanimously approve the application for reclassification of the consultative status from special to general, so that only the final decision by the Council is left to make the new status official.
